Mogadishu, Somalia — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) convened a coordination meeting in Mogadishu focused on aligning national efforts to respond to the ongoing drought and strengthening emergency assistance for vulnerable communities.
The meeting brought together government ministries and relevant public institutions, which reviewed the current drought situation across the country and assessed urgent humanitarian needs. Participants were presented with the latest data on drought impacts, highlighting the most severely affected areas and the scale of the population impacted.
Attendees emphasized the importance of harmonizing response plans to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those most in need quickly, efficiently, and transparently—particularly children, women, and other vulnerable households.
The discussion also underscored the need to strengthen collaboration among government institutions to improve the national emergency response system and enhance preparedness and coordination for drought and other urgent crises.
