The Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Dr. Ahmed Abdi Aadan, participated in the National Climate Outlook Forum, where the forecast for this year’s 2026 Gu rainy season was presented.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, was attended by climate experts, government institutions, representatives from Federal Member States, and humanitarian organizations. During the forum, discussions focused on analyzing climate data to strengthen the early warning system and prevent risks arising from climate change, especially droughts and floods.
Speaking at the forum, SoDMA Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ahmed Abdi Aadan warned of a drought situation expected in the coming months, which requires vigilance and urgent preparedness. He said that the Federal Government of Somalia is accelerating disaster prevention and preparedness measures, including strengthening the early warning system, delivering water and food to vulnerable areas, and coordinating relief operations in cooperation with Federal Member States and humanitarian organizations.
Finally, the Deputy Commissioner called for cooperation and vigilance to reduce the impact of drought and save the lives of Somali communities.
