MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, held a constructive meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy to Somalia, Ms. Merete Dyrud, at the Norwegian Embassy in Mogadishu yesterday, Sunday. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and strengthen cooperation on humanitarian issues and community development. The agency’s Head of Program Development, Dr. Ismail Jimale, attended the meeting alongside Commissioner Abdulle, while Ms. Dyrud was accompanied by an officer from the Norwegian Embassy.

The meeting highlighted Norway’s long-standing and crucial role in providing humanitarian and developmental support to Somalia. This enduring partnership is a testament to Norway’s commitment to international solidarity and addressing global challenges, particularly in regions affected by conflict and climate change.

Ms. Dyrud affirmed that the Norwegian government is determined to increase its support, particularly for emergency aid services and the development of vulnerable communities. She noted that Norway’s assistance is channeled through various avenues, including direct funding to humanitarian organizations and bilateral cooperation with the Somali government, focusing on emergency aid, capacity building, and long-term development.

Commissioner Abdulle expressed his gratitude to the Norwegian government for its continuous and strategic support. He emphasized that Norway’s assistance is crucial in building the country’s capacity to manage disasters and facilitate community recovery.

Both parties pledged to work closely together, strengthening their cooperation to advance the development of the Somali community and tackle pressing humanitarian issues. The meeting concluded on a note of mutual understanding and a shared commitment to a productive and enduring partnership.
