MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – In a significant move to enhance the country’s humanitarian response, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LM International last Thursday. The partnership aims to develop agency’s capabilities in crisis response.
The signing ceremony took place at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu, where SoDMA was represented by its Commissioner, Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, and LM International by its Programs Coordinator, Ms. Nasra Mohamed Ahmed.
This MoU seeks to improve the efficiency of the agency’s personnel through specialized training programs and to strengthen its ability to manage and implement relief projects more effectively. These efforts are crucial for the national drive to alleviate the suffering of affected communities.
Background on SoDMA’s Role in Humanitarian Work
The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) plays a pivotal role in leading and coordinating humanitarian efforts within Somalia. The agency was established to unify national and international efforts in confronting natural and man-made disasters, such as droughts and floods, and addressing crises that impact food security and population stability.
SoDMA works on developing strategies for rapid response, coordinating aid distribution, and building the capacity of local communities to better cope with future crises.
Partnerships with international organizations like LM International are a cornerstone of the agency’s strategy, ensuring the continuity of the technical and material support needed for its relief operations across the country.
