MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) held an important meeting today with the leadership of the Somalia NGO Consortium to enhance joint coordination in humanitarian response.
The meeting took place at the Airport Hotel in the capital, Mogadishu, with senior officials from both sides in attendance, with the aim of unifying relief efforts and ensuring aid reaches the most vulnerable groups in the country.
The two parties agreed on three main pillars of cooperation aimed at improving humanitarian relief operations in Somalia: reviewing the National Disaster Management Policy, establishing a Joint Information Center to unify data and avoid duplication, in addition to holding regular high-level meetings to strengthen the strategic partnership.
Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, Commissioner of the agency, affirmed that this cooperation is a pivotal step to ensure aid reaches the communities most in need, while Ms. Nimo Hassan, Director of the NGO Consortium, commended the agency’s role, affirming that this partnership will enhance the effectiveness and transparency of relief operations.
This meeting comes amid escalating humanitarian challenges facing Somalia, including armed conflicts and severe climate change, as well as the internal displacement of hundreds of thousands of families.
This strategic step represents a joint effort to coordinate the work of humanitarian organizations and ensure that vital aid reaches those affected more efficiently, thereby helping them build resilience against future crises.
