On Thursday, the Somali Disaster Management Agency signed a cooperative MoU with leading higher education institutions in Mogadishu, a move to expand the agency’s partnerships and connections with local entities.
The MoU focuses on disaster research, training, and the development of a specialized workforce in disaster risk management from academic perspectives.
Commissioner Mohamoud Moallim Abdulle and the Rector of the University of Simad, Abdikarim Mohaid, who was representing the Universities Consortium for Disaster and Climate Resilience, jointly signed the MoU at SODMA headquarters in Mogadishu.
Commissioner Mohamoud Moallim Abdulle commended the valuable contribution of the country’s universities and emphasized that research conducted in universities has the potential to offer solutions to some of the country’s pressing challenges.
