Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim and Georgy Conway UN, the DSRSG of UN in Somalia, co-chaired a monthly meeting aimed at reviewing the ongoing humanitarian situation in the country with other partners, including OCHA Somalia, UNDP Somalia, and FAO Somalia.
The meeting focused on preparations for the anticipated droughts in Somalia and the preventive measures to be taken to avert their impacts.
The meeting also explored the factors contributing to seasonal flooding along the Shabelle River, despite the absence of rainfall in Somalia and the Ethiopian highlands, where the river originates.
The assessment report of Deyr flood impacts, strengthening strict measures against aid diversion, raising awareness about the country’s humanitarian situation, and expediting the Sabun dam project in Jowhar were also among the key issues deliberated in the meeting.
