Mogadishu — The Minister of Rural Development for the South West State Administration, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Noor, has proposed that 50% of development-related funding be allocated to internally displaced people (IDPs) affected by drought across Somalia.

The Minister noted that South West communities have been disproportionately affected by the drought and have also received large numbers of displaced families fleeing from their areas of origin. He emphasized that this influx has significantly increased pressure on host communities, expanding needs for basic services and support.

He called for a more targeted allocation of resources to ensure that drought-affected IDPs and host communities receive adequate assistance, while strengthening longer-term recovery and resilience in the hardest-hit areas.
