The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Ma’allin Abdulle, led a delegation representing Somalia at the high-level ministerial session of the 2nd East Africa Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Action (EADP2), held on 30 October 2026 in Mombasa, Kenya.
The session brought together ministers responsible for humanitarian affairs and disaster management from South Sudan and Uganda, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, the Executive Secretary for Disaster Management of Djibouti, the Chairperson of Sudan’s Disaster Management Authority, and the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Discussions focused on strengthening early warning systems, integrating Anticipatory Action into national policies and strategies, and mobilizing financing to implement preventive measures before hazards escalate into disasters.
Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to institutionalizing the Anticipatory Action agenda at the national level, implementing the National Roadmap, strengthening coordination and accountability, and increasing domestic financing with support from international partners. These efforts aim to ensure government leadership and locally led implementation of anticipatory action initiatives.
