The Somalia Country Humanitarian Forum (CHF 2026) concluded today in Mogadishu, focusing on preparedness for the impacts of Super El Niño 2026, early warning, early action, and mobilizing humanitarian support.

The forum brought together Federal Government ministers, the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), representatives of Federal Member States, humanitarian organizations, international partners, and civil society. Discussions focused particularly on strengthening preparedness and flood response plans, mobilizing humanitarian assistance, and ensuring that early warnings and risk information reach vulnerable communities, especially those living in remote areas.

The forum also emphasized the importance of coordination and collaboration among the Federal Government, Federal Member States, and humanitarian organizations to ensure early action is taken and to reduce the potential impacts of flooding, displacement, and humanitarian emergencies associated with El Niño 2026.

The Commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Mahmoud Macallin Abdulle, stated that the time has come for Somali communities to demonstrate unity and mobilize fully to prevent and reduce the risks associated with El Niño.

In his closing remarks, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Ali Yusuf Ali (Hosh), called on all stakeholders involved in preparedness and efforts to mitigate El Niño-related risks to work closely with SoDMA, the government institution responsible for leading and coordinating disaster management efforts in Somalia.
