The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamoud Moallin Abdulle, welcomed a delegation at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) led by the new Head of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), Mr. Per Karlsson, accompanied by Ms. Cecelia.
The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), which was established with the support of SIDA, is now fully operational and playing a visible role in strengthening emergency response coordination and disaster management across the country. This reflects the Government of Sweden’s strong commitment to supporting Somalia, particularly in the areas of community resilience and institutional development.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation, improving national-level coordination, implementing anticipatory action measures, and enhancing emergency operational capacity.
The Swedish delegation also conducted an assessment visit to different sections of the Center, where they commended SoDMA for its preparedness in responding to emergencies, particularly the ongoing drought in the country, as well as its continued efforts to strengthen emergency response and disaster preparedness.
Finally, the Commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Mahamoud Moallin Abdulle, highly appreciated the support of the Government of Sweden in disaster management efforts, and highlighted the importance of close cooperation between SoDMA and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
