Today, the first meeting of the Joint Steering Committee overseeing the implementation of the Food Security Crisis Preparedness Plan (FSCPP) was held at the headquarters of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA).

The meeting was co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Kamaal Guutaale, and the Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle. It was attended by the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, George Conway, UN agencies including WFP, OCHA, UNICEF, and FAO, the World Bank, the NGO Consortium, and representatives from Federal Government ministries.

The meeting focused on accelerating the first phase of the FSCPP, which is designed to address the worsening drought situation and growing food insecurity. It also reviewed progress on the pledges made during the World Bank meeting and highlighted the need to expedite the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The committee emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between government institutions and international partners, with priority given to the communities most severely affected by the drought.

Finally, the Commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle, called for increased emergency response efforts and stronger support for people affected by the drought across the country.
