Officials from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) today held a meeting in Las Anod focused on the implementation and dissemination of the revised National Disaster Management Policy (NDMP), aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness, prevention, and response mechanisms.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Northeastern Somalia Administration, Eng. Mohamed Dirie Farah (Shariif), who opened the two-day workshop, explained the importance of the revised policy and the new system based on prevention and capacity-building for both government institutions and local communities in order to prevent or minimize the impacts of disasters affecting the country. The workshop was attended by representatives from ministries and agencies of the Northeastern administration, as well as international organizations operating in the region.

Finally, Mohamed Mukhtar Ali, a Senior Advisor at the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), stated that the revised National Disaster Management Policy will play a major role in improving preparedness and strengthening disaster response plans across the country, while also accelerating cooperation between government institutions and communities.
