MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle, has unveiled part of the agency’s new strategy for 2026.
This plan focuses on addressing the basic needs facing the Somali people, particularly improving irrigation systems and access to clean drinking water.
The Commissioner noted that there are many wells across the country that currently require urgent rehabilitation. Some of these wells have been damaged due to technical problems, while others contain salty/brackish water that is not fit for drinking. These are planned to be equipped with water filtration systems.
“Our goal is for every Somali citizen to have access to clean water by making use of modern equipment to purify water from salty wells,” the Commissioner said.
