The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, today held a productive meeting with a delegation from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), including representatives from the agency’s headquarters.
The meeting focused on Somalia’s humanitarian situation and disaster risks, with particular attention to the drought situation, preparedness for the anticipated impacts of El Niño, early warning systems, anticipatory action, and strengthening cooperation among the Federal Government, Federal Member States, and humanitarian partners.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its support to Somalia, particularly in the humanitarian sector and in strengthening collaboration.
In conclusion, SoDMA Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle emphasized the importance of investing in national disaster management systems and strengthening the capacity of government institutions, enabling Somalia to move beyond a reactive response approach toward risk-informed preparedness, anticipatory action, and sustainable resilience.
