The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, today received Ms. Reena Ghelani, Head of Plan International, at the agency’s headquarters.
The meeting focused on Somalia’s humanitarian situation, with particular attention to areas still affected by drought, weather forecasts indicating an increasing risk of El Niño-related rainfall, and the potential threat of a desert locust outbreak following the anticipated El Niño rains.
Both sides also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation in humanitarian response and enhancing disaster preparedness to reduce the impact of future emergencies on Somali communities.
Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle emphasized that Somalia continues to face extensive humanitarian needs and called on the international community to strengthen its support for the Somali people.
For her part, Ms. Reena Ghelani noted that she had visited humanitarian crisis-affected areas, including Baidoa, where she witnessed the scale of humanitarian needs firsthand. She stressed the urgent need for life-saving assistance to protect vulnerable communities across Somalia.
