The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (Ali Hoosh), accompanied by the State Minister for Interior, Mr. Sadaad Mohamed Nur Aliyow, today visited the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), where they were received by the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle.
The meeting focused on the country’s preparedness situation, disaster response plans, and the forecast for Super El Niño and its potential impacts.
The Minister also inspected the activities being carried out at the Center and assessed SoDMA’s level of preparedness for the anticipated impacts of Super El Niño. He urged all institutions and stakeholders involved in disaster management to follow SoDMA’s leadership and coordination in disaster-related operations in order to strengthen cooperation and avoid duplication of efforts.
The Commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, briefed the Minister on the Agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen preparedness and prevent and mitigate emerging risks.
In conclusion, Minister Ali Hoosh called on the Somali public to remain cautious and vigilant, noting that flooding and flash floods are expected as a result of Super El Niño. He also urged the public and relevant stakeholders to support vulnerable communities.
