The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, officially received the donation from the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu. The contribution includes $2 million in cash assistance and food aid intended to help communities impacted by the ongoing drought across the country.
Ambassador Wang Yu stated that the Government of China will continue to support the Somali people, particularly in drought response efforts and disaster prevention initiatives. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, especially in humanitarian assistance and social development.
The SoDMA Commissioner, Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of China for their continued support. He noted that the donation will assist communities in 72 districts across Somalia that have been affected by drought, particularly 45 districts currently facing emergency conditions.
He further highlighted that the assistance will play an important role in protecting the lives of drought-affected populations, especially children, women, and vulnerable households in urgent need of humanitarian support.
