The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, today launched the IMPAACT Project in Mogadishu, aimed at strengthening early warning systems, risk forecasting, and anticipatory actions to mitigate the impacts of disasters.

The launch was attended by representatives from DG ECHO, ICPAC, ACF, SCAP, the Federal Government of Somalia, and humanitarian and development partners.

The SoDMA Commissioner, Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, noted that Somalia continues to face drought, floods, displacement, food insecurity, and the impacts of climate change. He emphasized the need to move beyond responding to disasters after they occur and instead strengthen risk forecasting and take early action before impacts escalate.

The Commissioner further stated that SoDMA is committed to leading, guiding, and coordinating the implementation of the project to strengthen national capacity and ensure that risk information, early warnings, and forecasts are effectively used to protect vulnerable communities and their livelihoods.
