The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, today held a meeting with the Acting Commander of the Somali National Armed Forces and Commander of the Somali Air Force, Brigadier General Abdirisaaq Mahmoud Haji (Qaloombi).
The meeting, held at the Somali Air Force Headquarters, focused on the humanitarian situation in the country and preparations for the anticipated impacts of Super El Niño, particularly floods and other potential emergencies resulting from the forecast rainfall.
The two sides agreed that the Somali Armed Forces should play an important role in emergency response and protecting communities. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of the Air Force in delivering humanitarian assistance, gathering information, and conducting ground assessments, including through the use of helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle commended the Somali Air Force and emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among government institutions to effectively prepare for and respond to the anticipated impacts of Super El Niño and protect the safety and well-being of the Somali people.
