The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle, and the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia, Dr. Abdalla Bin Salim Al-Nuaimi, today officially launched a large-scale food distribution project in Mogadishu.

The project is being implemented by Qatar Charity, in coordination with the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Somalia. It will deliver food assistance to up to 6,000 vulnerable families affected by the severe drought conditions in the country, with a particular focus on at-risk households living in the Banadir Region.

The official launch took place at the Somali Police Force Orphans’ Rehabilitation Center in Mogadishu.

Speaking at the event, the Qatar Charity Commissioner, Mr. Abdifatah Adan Moallin, stated that the food distribution initiative will directly benefit the intended recipients. He emphasized that the assistance will reach drought-affected low-income families to help reduce their hardship and support their daily livelihoods.

In his remarks, SoDMA Commissioner Mr. Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle noted that the project comes at a critical time as Somalia continues to face a worsening drought that has severely impacted vulnerable communities. He expressed his appreciation to the State of Qatar and Qatar Charity for their visible humanitarian support, and reaffirmed SoDMA’s commitment to continuing its coordination role to ensure aid reaches the families most in need.
