MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – In a strategic move affirming a shared commitment to enhancing humanitarian response capabilities, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has strengthened its strategic partnership with the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS). This significant development took place during a high-level meeting yesterday, Sunday, at agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu, between Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, the Commissioner of SoDMA, and Ahmed Aden Hamed, the Director of the QRCS office in Somalia.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in several critical areas, including disaster preparedness and emergency response, and the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to affected communities. The two parties also discussed the importance of building the capacity of SoDMA staff through specialized training programs to ensure a rapid and effective response to future crises.
Representing SoDMA at the meeting were Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein, Assistant to the President for Arab and Islamic Affairs. The QRCS was represented by Abdirizak Ga’al, Health Officer at the QRCS office.
The QRCS representative praised SoDMA’s tireless efforts in addressing humanitarian challenges in Somalia, affirming his organization’s commitment to providing continued support for development initiatives and emergency aid to the most vulnerable communities.
For his part, the Commissioner of the agency emphasized that this vital partnership will contribute to finding sustainable and practical solutions to reduce the fragility of Somali communities. He underscored his agency’s dedication to enhancing collaboration with all international and local partners to ensure the safety, resilience, and well-being of the Somali people.
This partnership is part of SoDMA’s broader efforts to lead and coordinate humanitarian work in the country. Since its establishment, the agency has been responsible for coordinating national and international relief efforts, directing aid to the most vulnerable areas, and developing proactive plans to mitigate the effects of natural disasters and humanitarian crises.
