Public Works Unit
The Public Work Unit at the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) plays a key role in helping communities recover after disasters. Our main job is to fix and rebuild things like roads, Bridges, buildings, water systems, and other important public services. We make sure everything is done safely, efficiently, and in a way that truly helps people get back on their feet.

To take the lead in planning and rebuilding public spaces and services that are damaged by disasters. We work closely with local communities and partners to make sure recovery efforts meet real needs and help people move forward.
Unit Mandate
- Help rebuild roads, buildings, and other public services after disasters.
- Make sure all construction is safe and done properly.
- Team up with national and international organizations to get the job done.
- Focus on rebuilding in a way that’s sustainable and helps reduce future risks.
Public Works Unit Structure:
Duties and responsivities for the sections:
- Head of Engineering & Reconstruction Section
- Plan and manage the rebuilding of damaged public spaces.
- Make sure everything is built to be safe and last long.
- Help set up emergency shelters when needed.
2. Head of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Section
- Bring back clean water and working toilets in disaster-hit areas.
- Teach people about hygiene and how to stay healthy.
- Rebuild broken water and sanitation systems quickly.
3. Head of Infrastructure Damage Assessment Section
- Check and report on the damage to roads, buildings, and other facilities.
- Write up clear reports to guide what needs to be fixed first.
- Keep records of what’s damaged and what’s at risk.
4. Head of Logistics & Resource Mobilization Section
- Handle the transport of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Work with partners and donors to gather support.
- Keep track of all resources being used in rebuilding efforts.
