The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), in collaboration with Mogadishu University, is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Somalia Disaster Resilience Conference (SDRC 2026), to be held under the theme: “From Recurrent Shocks to Sustainable Resilience in Somalia.”

​Building on the success of previous editions, SDRC 2026 aims to transition the national dialogue from disaster risk comprehension to the implementation of sustainable, system-driven solutions designed to mitigate recurrent shocks and fortify long-term resilience.

​Conference Context:

Somalia continues to confront cyclical climate-related disasters, particularly droughts and floods, which perpetuate cycles of vulnerability, displacement, and humanitarian dependency. Despite ongoing efforts, resilience gains remain fragile. This conference seeks to explore pathways to break this cycle by advancing anticipatory action, strengthening institutional frameworks, and promoting sustainable recovery pathways.

Institutional Collaboration:

Organized under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SoDMA and Mogadishu University, this conference serves as a premier national platform for knowledge exchange and innovation. It directly supports the SoDMA Strategic Plan (2024–2029) and the Mogadishu University Strategic Plan (2025–2030) by bridging the gap between scientific research and societal impact.

Research Themes (Sub-Themes):

• Breaking the cycle of recurrent climate shocks in Somalia.
• Anticipatory Action systems and shock-responsive programming.
• ​Post-disaster recovery systems and institutional resilience.
• ​Resilience programming and pathways to reducing humanitarian dependency.
• ​Climate change adaptation and long-term resilience planning.
• ​Climate finance, resource allocation, and investment effectiveness.
• ​Data systems, risk information, and decision-support mechanisms.
• ​Technology applications in Disaster Risk Management (DRM).
• ​The role of educational frameworks in enhancing sustainable resilience.
• ​Strengthening health systems as a key component of sustainable resilience.

​Submission Guidelines:

• Abstract: Maximum 350 words (clearly stating objectives, methodology, and key findings).
• ​Full Paper: Between 3,500 and 6,000 words.
• Language: Submissions are accepted in Somali, Arabic, or English (Somali and Arabic papers must include an English abstract).
• ​Eligibility: Researchers holding a Master’s or PhD with at least one prior publication are highly encouraged to apply.
