Mogadishu, Somalia — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Maxamuud Macallin Cabdulle, today held a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley IV, at the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening effective humanitarian cooperation, at a time when the United States has been Somalia’s largest humanitarian donor over the past decade, providing more than USD 7 billion in humanitarian and development assistance.
During the severe drought of 2022, the United States provided USD 1.3 billion in emergency support, including over USD 700 million in direct humanitarian aid—assistance that played a critical role in preventing famine and enabling a rapid response to the drought’s devastating impacts.
The discussion also underscored the importance of renewed U.S. engagement in addressing the current drought and the growing humanitarian challenges affecting the country.
Finally, the Commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Maxamuud Macallin Cabdulle, expressed his appreciation to the U.S. Embassy and the Government of the United States for their sustained support to humanitarian operations and their long-standing contributions to Somalia’s state-building process.
