The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, chaired a high-level meeting attended by representatives of the Federal Government, ministers responsible for humanitarian affairs from the Federal Member States, the United Nations, international and local organizations, and humanitarian partners.

The meeting focused particularly on strengthening support to the Federal Member States in their coordination mechanisms at both state and district levels, with emphasis on preparedness, early warning, and response to climate-related risks and the anticipated impacts of El Niño 2026.

Participants agreed on the importance of strengthening coordination capacity and mechanisms at the Federal Member State level, ensuring that early warnings are translated into timely action and that resources, humanitarian assistance, and other support reach vulnerable communities when needed.

SoDMA and the Federal Member States called on humanitarian and development partners to strengthen technical, financial, human-resource, and logistical support, and to align their programs with the preparedness priorities of the Federal Government and Federal Member States for El Niño.

In conclusion, SoDMA Commissioner Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle stated that the country is facing a challenging humanitarian situation and emphasized the need for urgent and effective measures to prepare for the risks associated with El Niño.
