The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, today officially inaugurated a National Consultative Conference on “Super El Niño Preparedness and the Engagement of Women-Led Organizations.”

The conference focused on strengthening Somalia’s preparedness for the risks associated with Super El Niño rainfall, with particular emphasis on the critical role of women-led organizations in disaster prevention, preparedness, and emergency response.

The event brought together Directors General from the Ministries of Interior, Finance, and Environment, officials from the Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development, Somali religious leaders, and representatives of women-led organizations from across the country.

In his opening remarks, Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle emphasized that collaboration between the government, women-led organizations, and local communities is essential for building resilience to the impacts of climate change. He called for unified efforts to strengthen national preparedness and reduce disaster risks.

The conference is expected to produce practical recommendations and action plans aimed at enhancing the participation of women-led organizations and reinforcing Somalia’s national preparedness for the anticipated impacts of Super El Niño.
