The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, officially closed the Somalia Country Humanitarian Forum in Baidoa.
The forum brought together representatives from the international community, United Nations agencies, international and local organizations, the Federal Member States, and civil society organizations. Discussions focused on accelerating drought recovery efforts and strengthening preparedness for the anticipated 2026 El Niño risks.
Participants agreed that greater priority should be given to disaster prevention and preparedness before forecasted hazards occur, rather than responding only after disasters have taken place.
Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle stated that Somali Disaster Management Agency will continue raising public awareness and issuing early warning information related to the potential impacts of the 2026 El Niño, with the aim of reducing its effects on vulnerable communities.
In his closing remarks, the Commissioner thanked the South West State of Somalia for hosting the forum and for its contribution to the successful organization of the Somalia Country Humanitarian Forum.
