The Leader of the South West State of Somalia, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), officially inaugurated the Humanitarian Forum (CHF) in Baidoa. The forum focuses on drought recovery efforts and preparedness for the anticipated 2026 El Niño risks.
The event brought together representatives from the international community, United Nations agencies, local and international humanitarian organizations, and civil society organizations.
In his keynote address, the Leader discussed the humanitarian situation in Somalia, highlighting the impacts of natural disasters such as droughts, floods, and flash floods. He noted that the forecasted 2026 El Niño could create additional humanitarian challenges.
He stated that the regions of South West State are among the areas most severely affected by the humanitarian situation, with some communities in urgent need of emergency assistance.
In conclusion, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) underscored the importance of investing in disaster prevention and preparedness before disasters occur, rather than relying solely on emergency response after they happen.
