The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, and a delegation he is leading, arrived today in Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State.
The SoDMA Commissioner’s delegation was warmly received at Shaati Gaduud Airport by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs of South West State, Mr. Abdinasir Abdi Caruush, along with members of the Council of Ministers and Members of Parliament.
The visit is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to strengthen emergency response and support for people affected by drought in some parts of the country. The Commissioner and his delegation are expected to hold meetings with South West State officials and assess the humanitarian situation in areas affected by the drought.
SoDMA has previously implemented water trucking programs and humanitarian assistance in Baidoa, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, to help reduce the impact of drought and address existing humanitarian needs.
