The Country Humanitarian Forum (CHF 2026) concluded in Mogadishu after bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen disaster prevention efforts and build resilience to drought in Somalia.

Organized by the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), the forum was held under the theme, “From Response to Prevention: Advancing Proactive DRM and Drought Resilience in Somalia.” The event gathered representatives from the Federal Government, Federal Member States, United Nations agencies, embassies, humanitarian organizations, the private sector, and civil society.

Speaking at the closing session, the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and improving rapid response efforts to address the ongoing effects of drought across the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, who delivered the closing remarks, stressed that this is a critical moment for Somalia to move beyond dependency on external aid and embrace a policy grounded in self-reliance and prevention. He noted that the global humanitarian system has undergone major changes, with support to Somalia declining due to conflicts and other complex crises around the world, particularly in the Middle East.

He further emphasized that the Federal Government and Federal Member States have a special responsibility to respond to the needs of the Somali people by mobilizing domestic resources, including tax revenues, partnerships with the business community, and support from Somali society.

The forum concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration, develop practical recommendations, and take concrete steps toward implementing disaster risk reduction strategies and building a more resilient future for Somalia.
