JALALAQSI, Somalia – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), in partnership with the Hirshabelle Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, has successfully implemented the second phase of its emergency relief operation in the Jalalaqsi district, targeting vulnerable communities severely impacted by the ongoing drought.

This latest distribution reached a total of 2,009 households, providing critical food assistance and essential supplies at a time when local resources have been significantly depleted. Beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to SoDMA and its partners, noting that the aid arrived during a period of acute need as the effects of the drought continue to intensify.

The relief project is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the African Risk Capacity (ARC), a specialized agency of the African Union that helps member states plan, prepare, and respond to extreme weather events. This collaboration highlights the importance of international partnerships in ensuring that timely and life-saving assistance reaches the most remote and affected populations.

Nuur Dheere, the District Commissioner of Jalalaqsi, commended the swift and transparent manner in which SoDMA executed the distribution. He praised the agency’s dedication to reaching the most vulnerable segments of society and emphasized the positive impact this support will have on stabilizing the food security situation in the district.

SoDMA reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these relief efforts across other affected regions, working closely with both national and international stakeholders to mitigate the humanitarian impact of the climate crisis.
