The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Ma’allin Abdulle, met with FAO Director of Emergencies Rein Paulsen, FAO Representative in Somalia Etienne Peterschmitt, and representatives of the Government of Norway.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation on El Niño preparedness, linking early warning systems with coordinated early action, and reducing the risks of flooding and other disaster-related impacts.

Discussions also addressed mobilizing additional financial resources and support to respond to humanitarian needs, alongside long-term investment in disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and community resilience.

The SoDMA Commissioner reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to leading the government’s disaster risk management efforts, strengthening coordination, and enhancing partnerships with international organizations and other stakeholders to ensure timely emergency response and protect lives and livelihoods.
