Beled-hawo, Jubbalnd, Somalia — A high-level delegation from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), led by Director General Mr. Abdirashid Mohamud Hassan, arrived today in the Beled Hawo district of the Gedo region. The visit is part of the agency’s urgent efforts to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground and provide immediate assistance to those affected and displaced by recent conflicts in the area.
Upon their arrival at the “UK” camp on the outskirts of Beled Hawo, the SoDMA delegation received a warm official and popular welcome. They were greeted by the District Commissioner, officials from the Somali National Armed Forces, and other prominent figures. This reception underscores the importance of the agency’s role in alleviating human suffering.
This field visit is a direct response to SoDMA’s close monitoring of the recent escalation that has led to a wave of internal displacement. The delegation is scheduled to meet directly with the affected population to listen to their most urgent needs and to prioritize the humanitarian response.
The delegation will also hold a special coordination meeting with relevant parties to discuss effective mechanisms for delivering humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable groups, including the provision of shelter, food, clean water, and essential healthcare services. SoDMA reaffirms its commitment to providing continuous support to the displaced until they are able to overcome this difficult phase.
SoDMA’s Pivotal Role in National Disaster Response
Since its reactivation in 2022, SoDMA has become a cornerstone of Somalia’s disaster response and management system. The agency has proven its effectiveness in confronting successive crises, whether caused by devastating floods, severe droughts, or the impact of conflicts on citizens’ lives.
SoDMA aims to be the main national arm for emergency relief by enhancing coordination and cooperation among all local and international relief organizations to ensure that the Somali people receive the necessary support during times of hardship.
