BELED HAWO, JUBALAND, SOMALIA — One of the Directors-General of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Abdirashid Mohamud Hassan, accompanied by the Commissioner of Beled Hawo District, Mr. Shire Abdullahi Keynan, chaired a special meeting on This morning at the district headquarters with humanitarian organizations operating in the area.
The urgent meeting focused on the humanitarian situation in Beled Hawo and its surrounding villages, which has been caused by conflicts and difficult living conditions. A particular emphasis was placed on how to expedite aid delivery to vulnerable populations and enhance the activities of humanitarian agencies in the Gedo region.
The officials agreed to establish a joint framework to ensure that aid projects and emergency services are implemented efficiently and in a coordinated manner, giving special priority to the genuine needs of the local community.
Additionally, the aid organizations presented their activities, the challenges they face, and their recommendations on how to strengthen cooperation with the government, the district administration, and civil society.
Following the meeting, the Director-General spoke to Somali National TV (SNTV), and discussed the objectives of the SoDMA delegation’s visit to the Gedo region over the past two weeks. He stated that the main goal was to assess the humanitarian situation in the region and to develop a joint plan to assist those affected by disasters.
He also detailed the outcomes of the urgent meeting, noting that there was an agreement to efficiently unify aid operations and create a collaborative framework for working with humanitarian organizations.
The Director-General highlighted SoDMA’s role in guiding and coordinating humanitarian efforts in the country. He said the agency serves as the primary leader in emergency situations, coordinating rapid responses from various government agencies, the international community, and local organizations to ensure that aid reaches those in need quickly and effectively. This role is crucial for creating sustainable solutions to the country’s persistent challenges.
