Mogadishu – The Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Dr. Ahmed Abdi Aden, officially welcomed government leaders, experts, researchers, and distinguished guests to the opening session of the 2nd Somalia Disaster Resilience Conference, held in Mogadishu.

The two-day conference, jointly organized by SoDMA and Mogadishu University, aims to strengthen collaboration between government institutions and academic centers in order to develop sustainable solutions to the recurring disasters affecting Somali communities.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Aden underscored the importance of shared knowledge and partnership in addressing disaster risks, emphasizing that research and coordination are key to building long-term national resilience.

The event gathered high-level participants, including Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, senior government officials, ministers, and members of parliament from both federal and regional levels. Representatives from UN agencies, civil society organizations, and development partners were also in attendance, reflecting broad national and international commitment to strengthening Somalia’s disaster preparedness and response capacity.

The conference serves as a platform for policymakers, academics, and humanitarian actors to exchange ideas, showcase research, and develop practical strategies for reducing the impact of natural and man-made disasters across the country.
