Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ahmed A. Adan took part in the inauguration of a two-day high-level workshop aimed at enhancing the Policy and Regulatory Framework for Emergency Telecommunications and Cell Broadcast Early Warning Systems (CB-EWS) in Somalia. This workshop is part of the #EW4All initiative’s Pillar 3, which seeks to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve communication during crises.
The workshop is an essential component of Pillar 3 of the #EW4ALL initiative, a collaborative effort led by SoDMA, tasked with overseeing the early warning activities of the FGS. Having successfully completed Pillars 1 and 2, SoDMA is now partnering with the National Communications Authority and the International Telecommunications Union to organize and implement this third pillar, aimed at enhancing our collective capacity for effective communication and response.
The workshop was officially inaugurated by Mustafa Yassin Sheikh, the Director General of the National Communications Agency. The event brought together essential stakeholders, including telecommunications companies, internet service providers, and various government agencies, fostering collaboration and dialogue within the industry.
The workshop will focus on the technical rules and regulations of the CB-EWS system, fostering collaboration among various agencies, and outlining a unified plan for its implementation. By doing so, we aim to ensure that the Somali community can effectively benefit from timely early warnings during emergencies. This in-depth discussion will pave the way for a more coordinated and responsive emergency management approach.
