Mogadishu — The Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Dr. Ahmed Abdi Aadan, has officially opened the National Technical Working Group on Disaster Risk Prevention (NTWGAA) in Mogadishu. The launch brought together representatives from government institutions, international partners, and local organizations, reflecting a strong commitment to coordinated disaster risk management.
During the meeting, the Director of the Disaster Risk Management Department at SoDMA, Mr. Khadar Sheikh Mohamed, highlighted the purpose of the gathering and the significance of activating the NTWGAA. He explained that the working group will play a vital role in strengthening disaster prevention, preparedness, and response, while improving coordination among key stakeholders.
The two-day meeting will focus on clarifying the mandate, roles, and responsibilities of the working group, identifying priority disaster risks, and developing a practical action plan to enhance national disaster risk prevention efforts.
In his remarks, Dr. Ahmed Abdi Aadan emphasized that early action and collective efforts are essential to minimizing the impacts of natural disasters, particularly droughts and floods. He noted that the NTWGAA will serve as a strategic platform for aligning stakeholders and strengthening Somalia’s preparedness and resilience to future shocks.
