BALAD, HIRSHABELLE, SOMALIA — In a move reflecting the government’s commitment to a rapid response to humanitarian needs, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has launched a massive food aid distribution project targeting 5,705 families, or 34,230 individuals, in the Balad and Jalalaqsi districts of the Hirshabelle State.
The launch of the three-month project came during a high-level delegation visit to the region, led by the agency’s Commissioner, Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle. The delegation was accompanied by local officials and the Hirshabelle State Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Yusuf Ahmed Yalahow, underscoring the effective partnership between the federal government and state authorities.
The Commissioner of the Agency affirmed that, “This project is not just a temporary response; it is an embodiment of the government’s vision to provide a decent and sustainable life for all Somali citizens, especially the most vulnerable groups. We are here today to confirm that the government will spare no effort to reach every person in need and provide them with the necessary support, anytime and anywhere.”
He added: “This initiative is part of our comprehensive national recovery plan, which aims to build the resilience of our communities to withstand future crises. We believe that investing in food security is an investment in the future of our nation.”
For his part, the Balad District Commissioner, Qasim Ali Nur (Fordog), appreciated this joint effort and called on citizens to cooperate to make the most of the development projects.
The Ugaas Mohamed Wali Hussein Salad Islow, also welcomed the delegation’s visit, praising the vital role SoDMA plays in rescuing those affected by natural disasters such as droughts and floods.
This vital project is expected to contribute to alleviating humanitarian suffering in Hirshabelle and enhance the local community’s ability to withstand challenges.
