BELED HAWO, JUBBBALAND, SOMALIA — In a poignant scene that embodies the highest principles of national solidarity, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has launched a comprehensive relief campaign in the Beled Hawo district, targeting 800 families affected by recent conflicts. This initiative, directly supervised by one of the Agency’s Directors-General, Mr. Abdirashid Mohamud Hassan, went beyond providing material assistance to instill hope in the hearts of those in need, confirming that the Somali state stands with its citizens in times of hardship.

National Commitment and Gratitude to the Local Administration

In his speech at the aid distribution ceremony, the Director-General affirmed that “this move is an immediate response to our close monitoring of the recent escalation that led to a significant wave of internal displacement. Our mission is not just to distribute food, but to assure our people that they are cared for and that the Somali government will spare no effort in supporting them.”

The Director-General also added that this is the first batch of a planned series of aid, stating: “This is the first batch, and there will be a second and third batch distributed in the Beled Hawo district.”

In a gesture reflecting the spirit of national cooperation, the Director-General extended special thanks to the Beled Hawo district administration for its efforts and full cooperation with the SoDMA team in facilitating the fair and efficient delivery of humanitarian aid to its rightful recipients.

He added: “The teamwork between government and local bodies is the cornerstone of our success. Your fruitful cooperation has allowed us to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most, and this reflects a shared national commitment.”

The comprehensive relief package for each family included a generous food ration, consisting of 25 kg of rice, 25 kg of wheat, 25 kg of sugar, and 3 liters of cooking oil. These carefully calculated quantities aim to meet the basic needs of the families for a sufficient period, giving them a chance to breathe amidst the difficult circumstances imposed by displacement.

Testimonies of Hope

The joy and gratitude were evident on the faces of the beneficiaries. One displaced mother expressed her feelings, saying: “We did not expect this generous help. We were living in fear and uncertainty about tomorrow’s food, but SoDMA came to our rescue. Thank God, and thank the Somali Disaster Agency for not forgetting us in our plight.” Meanwhile, an elderly man noted that this aid “is not just food; it is proof that our government cares about us. This gives us the strength to carry on and hope for a better future.”
