MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamoud Moallim Abdulle, held a high-level consultative meeting today with key international donors, including representatives from the European Union, the United States, and the United Nations. The discussions centered on formulating a robust and accelerated response to the severe drought currently gripping the nation.

The meeting focused on a critical assessment of the drought’s trajectory, which has now reached alarming levels, severely impacting communities across multiple regions of Somalia. Commissioner Abdulle provided the partners with a detailed briefing on the immediate humanitarian needs on the ground, highlighting that vast areas of the country are now in urgent need of life-saving assistance.

“The situation has become critical, and immediate intervention is required to reach the most vulnerable populations who are facing acute shortages of water and food,” the Commissioner noted during the session.

In response to the briefing, the donor representatives expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation. They reaffirmed their solidarity with the Somali people and pledged to scale up their financial and logistical support. The partners committed to strengthening their collaboration with SoDMA to ensure that aid is delivered efficiently to mitigate the harsh effects of the climate shock.

Concluding the meeting, Commissioner Mahamoud Moallim Abdulle issued a renewed call to the broader international community. He urged global partners to intensify their involvement and mobilize resources swiftly to support the millions of Somali citizens whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by the drought.
