SoDMA Commissioner Mahamoud Moallim and senior officials from SoDMA engaged in a constructive strategic discussion with the World Bank team, led by Country Manager Kristina Svensson. This collaboration fostered valuable insights and opportunities for future initiatives.
The meeting centered on strengthening the long-standing partnership and reflecting on the tremendous impact of the Somalia Crisis Recovery Project (SCRP).
The meeting recognized significant achievements, including the establishment and operationalization of the National Emergency Operations Center, as well as the piloted Early Warning System. Both have greatly improved Somalia’s disaster preparedness.
As SCRP nears its conclusion, the discussions have underscored the importance of establishing sustainable financing and ensuring institutional continuity to build upon and maintain the progress achieved.
SoDMA has reinforced its commitment to being Somalia’s primary agency for disaster risk reduction. They highlighted the crucial need to enhance recovery initiatives, especially focusing on rehabilitating infrastructure in regions impacted by El Niño.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its steadfast support and is optimistic about the potential for continued collaboration to strengthen and build a more resilient Somalia.
