MOGADISHU, June 11, 2025 – In a significant step toward enhancing disaster management capabilities, Mohamed Hirsi, Director of the Research and Training Center at the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), welcomed Engineer Zafer ESKI, Representative and Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA-Somalia), at SoDMA’s headquarters today.
The productive meeting focused on deepening collaboration between SoDMA and TIKA, with both parties agreeing to jointly develop and implement training programs. Discussions emphasized the importance of monitoring and evaluating the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) to improve disaster response effectiveness.
Key initiatives include the development of state-of-the-art training halls, as well as organizing outdoor practical exercises and drills to provide hands-on learning experiences. This partnership marks a promising advancement in building Somalia’s resilience to disasters through enhanced training and coordination.
The agreement signals a shared commitment to fostering sustainable solutions for disaster preparedness and response in Somalia.
