MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — In a significant move to unify relief efforts, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) held a crucial meeting on Thursday with the leadership of the Somalia NGO Consortium. The meeting took place at the Airport Hotel in Mogadishu, with senior officials from both sides in attendance, to enhance humanitarian partnership and crisis response coordination.
The two parties agreed on three key areas of cooperation aimed at improving the country’s humanitarian operations:
- Developing a National Disaster Management Policy: To ensure a swift and effective response to emergencies.
- Establishing a Joint Information Center: To share data and create a unified relief map, reducing duplication and increasing transparency.
- Conducting Regular High-Level Meetings: To ensure continuous coordination and strengthen the strategic partnership.
During the meeting, Commissioner of the Agency, Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, affirmed that this cooperation represents a pivotal step to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable communities.
For her part, the Consortium’s Director, Ms. Nimo Hassan, commended SoDMA’s role, emphasizing that this partnership will enhance the effectiveness and transparency of relief operations.
This meeting takes place at a critical juncture, as Somalia confronts mounting humanitarian challenges, from the devastating impacts of armed conflicts and severe climate change to the internal displacement of hundreds of thousands of families.
This joint coordination is a strategic step to unify the efforts of humanitarian organizations, with the goal of ensuring that vital aid reaches the most affected communities more effectively and strengthens their resilience against future crises.
