Mogadishu — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA),Mr. Mohamuud Moalin Abdulle, held a coordination meeting at SoDMA headquarters with the Chairman of the Somali Petroleum Authority (SPA), Mr. Abdulkadir Mohamuud Adam.
The meeting focused on strengthening preparedness and rapid emergency response, particularly in relation to risks arising from oil and gas exploration activities. Discussions emphasized the importance of anticipating and managing potential hazards associated with petroleum operations to safeguard communities and the environment.
Participants also examined ways to enhance inter-agency coordination, improve risk management mechanisms, and develop integrated response frameworks capable of addressing the environmental and social impacts that may result from oil and gas activities.
Concluding the meeting, Commissioner Mohamuud Moallin Abdulle stressed the need for SoDMA to play a visible and formal role in oil and gas exploration and production processes. He emphasized that SoDMA should be included in agreements with petroleum companies, to ensure risk guarantees, accountability, and compensation mechanisms are in place in the event of disasters linked to petroleum operations.
