LAS ANOD, SOMALIA — In a proactive step to enhance humanitarian work, the Ministry of Humanitarian Aid & Disaster Management – Northeastern State of Somalia hosted an exceptional meeting at Rayaan Hall in Las Anod on September 13, 2025. The consultation, titled “Enhancing Humanitarian Coordination and Partnerships,” brought together a group of government leaders and humanitarian partners, led by the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle.

This initiative is central to SoDMA’s role as a leading government body tasked with the responsibility of leading and coordinating humanitarian work in the country. Since its establishment, the agency has worked to build bridges of trust and cooperation between the government, civil society, and international organizations, ensuring aid reaches the most vulnerable groups effectively and avoiding duplication of efforts. This meeting is tangible proof of this institutional commitment.

The meeting saw a notable attendance, including the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for the Northeast Regional State, Mr. Abdirisaq Yusuf Mohamed (Hindi), along with representatives from international and local NGOs, civil society activists, and a number of prominent intellectuals and residents of Las Anod. This diversity reflected a genuine desire to involve all segments of society in formulating sustainable solutions.

During his speech, the SoDMA Commissioner provided a detailed explanation of the agency’s strategy in facing current challenges, emphasizing that unifying plans and efforts is the only way to ensure the effectiveness and speed of aid delivery. He added: “We are here today to unite our ranks, as humanitarian challenges know no borders. We must work as one team and use all our available resources to save lives and alleviate suffering.”

The meeting also featured an open and direct dialogue with citizens, where the Commissioner listened to questions and concerns from attendees who expressed their fears about delays in aid delivery. Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle provided clear answers, confirming that the agency will work to simplify procedures and overcome any bureaucratic obstacles to ensure aid reaches those in need quickly.

This meeting is considered a turning point in the humanitarian work methodology in the region. It opens the door to a new phase of effective institutional cooperation and confirms that the response to humanitarian crises in Somalia will not be an individual effort, but a comprehensive national responsibility built on joint planning and unified field action, which is what SoDMA strives to achieve with effectiveness and steadfastness.
