Mogadishu, Somalia — In a pivotal step to strengthen Somalia’s disaster management capabilities, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) held its first meeting with LM International. This historic encounter yielded a mutual understanding to initiate a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering national capacities to face humanitarian and environmental disasters.
The Commissioner of the Agency, Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Swedish organization, led by Ms. Josephine Sundqvist, at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu.
The meeting explored potential avenues for collaboration, with Commissioner Abdulle providing a comprehensive overview of SoDMA’s strategic goals and its ambitious plans to build a cohesive and effective crisis response system.
For her part, Ms. Sundqvist highlighted LM International’s expertise in humanitarian and development work, affirming the organization’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support to Somalia’s efforts.
The two sides agreed that this meeting marks the beginning of a sustainable partnership, which aims to protect lives and property and enhance community resilience.
As a direct outcome of this fruitful meeting, both parties agreed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This document will serve as a roadmap outlining the key pillars of collaboration.
