The Director of the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Mr Hassan Isse, has officially launched a vital five-days training program aimed at enhancing disaster risk reduction (DRR), fostering adaptation to climate change, and strengthening the resilience of Somali communities. This initiative represents a proactive step towards building safer and more sustainable environments for our communities.
The training is a collaborative effort primarily supported by PLAN International and organized in partnership with the Disaster Research and Training Center of SoDMA. Its objective is to enhance the skills of the agency’s staff, empowering them to effectively respond to emergencies caused by climate change and other natural hazards.
Throughout the training, employees from various departments at SoDMA will enhance their knowledge and skills in the following areas:
⦿ How to reduce disaster risk (DRR)
⦿ Effective ways of dealing with emergencies.
⦿ Building societies that are socially and environmentally resilient.
⦿ Strategies related to adaptation to climate change.
This initiative aims to empower our workforce and strengthen our collective capability to address these critical challenges.
Mr. Hassan Isse emphasized that the training embodies SoDMA’s strategic vision to establish a comprehensive national system designed for prevention, response, and recovery. This initiative aims to enhance the safety, development, and prosperity of the Somali people, ultimately contributing to a brighter future.
