Mogadishu, June 17, 2025 – Mr. Mahamuud Moalim Abdulle, Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), inaugurated the National Disaster Management Policy Review Consultation Conference today, marking a significant step toward strengthening Somalia’s disaster response framework.
The conference aims to collaboratively revise the National Disaster Management Policy through inclusive consultations with stakeholders, ensuring it addresses current challenges effectively.
The conference was attended by officials from various levels, including key figures such as Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Farah, State Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali, Director General of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and Mr. Marco Selva, Deputy Country Director of WFP Somalia, alongside representatives from regional governments, federal agencies, the UN, NGOs, and civil society.
In his opening address, Commissioner Moalim emphasized the importance of collective expertise in shaping a robust, inclusive policy. “This platform unites diverse perspectives to create a practical, sustainable policy that reflects Somalia’s realities,” he said, urging participants to engage in open dialogue and propose equitable solutions.
The conference is poised to foster collaboration and drive meaningful policy improvements, enhancing Somalia’s resilience to disasters.
