Mr. Mohamed Abdirahim Omar, a health data analyst and statistician with advanced expertise in data science and a Master’s degree, presented a research paper at the 2nd Somali Disaster Resilience Conference titled: “Drought Vulnerability Among Pastoral Communities: Factors Related to Camel Mortality in Somalia and Their Impact on Community Resilience.”
In his presentation, Mr. Mohamed highlighted how prolonged droughts severely affect pastoral livelihoods, particularly through camel deaths — a critical blow to food security, income, and mobility in rural areas. He emphasized the need for data-driven policies and early warning systems to mitigate livestock losses and strengthen community resilience against climate-induced shocks.
